Un groupe de personnes appartenant à l'organisation TAPS (The Atlantic Paranormal Society), enquête sur des lieux supposés hantés dans le but de mettre en évidence des preuves d'activité.

Taps - Ghost Hunters (Les Traqueurs de fantômes en français) est une série documentaire américaine diffusée aux États-Unis depuis octobre 2004 sur la chaîne Syfy, et diffusée en France dans Planète No Limit ainsi qu'au Québec sous le nom de Chasseurs de fantômes sur Z-Télé.

Jason Hawes, fondateur de TAPS a une trentaine d’années. Il est plombier de métier, il a trois filles et deux fils. Il aime la pêche en haute mer et il écrit des scénarios (il a déjà rédigé quatre scénarios dans les domaines du thriller et de la science-fiction).

Grant Wilson, co-fondateur de Taps,lui aussi plombier, est le père de trois fils. Il est le meilleur ami et le confident de Jason. Il adore la cuisine italienne (après deux ans passés en Italie il parle parfaitement italien), aime composer des chansons au piano ou à la guitare ou écrire des romans de fantasy.

Les deux travaillaient avant comme plombiers pour la compagnie Roto-Rooter, le jour et investiguaient les lieux, la nuit. Depuis le succès de la série télé, la série prend désormais la priorité dans leur vie, mais ils sont toujours employés honorifiques dans leur ancienne entreprise et continuent à faire des travaux pour eux, si le temps le permet.
